Come one, come all and have fun in a Lakeshore Players Theater class!
Students from Preschool through grade 12 are welcome to attend our classes. Each class is full of different fun activities designed to hone acting skills, encourage creativity, boost self-esteem and build confidence. Beginners and old pros alike will benefit from these classes. NOTE: If minimum enrollment is not met, class will be cancelled and registration fee refunded.

Creative Storytelling!

Location: Lakeshore Players
Mondays, 4:45-5:45 p.m.
5 Week Sessions
Cost: $60 per session

We will explore a variety of stories with music, props, and costume pieces. Students will learn and play creatively to develop early social skills in this class for the youngest of artists. A final story-sharing for family and friends will take place on the last day of each session.
Note: Although each session builds on the previous, you may pick and choose programming throughout the year. The instructor will adjust all content to fit each student’s needs, abilities, and experience.

Class4Grades K-2: Create A World
Location: Lakeshore Players
Tuesdays, 4:45-5:45 p.m.
5 Week Sessions
Cost: $65 per session

Each Create a World program is a unique experience that uses character work and collaborative storytelling to produce a brand new play. Students are encour- aged to take any combination of sessions to fit their interests and schedule; new students will find exciting discoveries in each class, and returning performers will be able to build on the skills they’ve already learned.
Class size: 5-12 students.

Adventures Ahoy!

What did you do with your summer vacation--was it an exciting adventure? What would the ultimate adventure be? Learn stage skills as you explore these seed ideas to create a brand new story!

Mysterious Mysteries!
November 22 - December 20
Spooky castles...creaking floorboards...flash- lights in the dark! Have you ever solved a mystery, or thought you would be good at it? Take this class and find out!

Silly Stories!
January 17 - February 21
Get goofy! What is the wackiest story you can come up with? Think about that, times a million, and you’re getting close to imagining this play. Warning: may contain clowns.

Mystical Magic!
March 27 - April 24
Wizards, spells, and wands--these are just some of the building blocks that we will use to create our new play. If you could perform any magic trick in the world, what would it be?

Learn the basics of the stage while we come to your school! You will concentrate on make believe, improvisation, pantomime and how to act like a caveman, pioneer, robot, wizard, pirate, dinosaur and more! This is a class for those who have never acted before or old pros!

Walk the Plank!
September 28 - October 26
Aaarrghh!!! Join us Matey as you learn to walk, talk and battle like a bona fide scallywag! You will be schooled in everything you need to know in order to set sail in the South Seas and beyond! Peg legs and hooked hands are especially welcome but talking parrots must be approved by the instructor prior.

Island of MISFIT Toys!
November 23 - December 21
In this holiday themed, musical theatre class, you will incorporate acting, art, singing, dancing and everything you need to know about being a misfit! Do you think you have knack for dentistry as opposed to making toys? Then this adventure is just for you!

Wonderful World of Wizardry!
January 18-February 15
Gandalf, Harry, Dumbledore, Merlin... You get the picture. But then again, you probably have already foreseen these events. Learn how to conjure spells with the best of them and make your very own wand out of dragon heartstrings or a phoenix feather! Muggles and squibs are welcome too!

Video Game Theatre!
March 28 - April 25
So you don’t think Mario, Luigi, Pac-Man or Yoshi have any connection with theatre?... Don’t bet your extra life on it! Playstation, X-Box and Wii games wouldn’t exist without classic theatrical influences. Video games contain many of the same ageless themes and story lines that originated in literature and the stage. Join us as we incorporate storytelling, art projects and maybe a controller or two in a mythical adventure that will get you off the couch and into a world of infinite possibilities. You will even have an opportunity to pen mini plays based on your favorite video game characters. Rated “E” for everyone!

Class56-12 Graders: Acting For Success!
Note: Although each new Acting for Success session builds on the previous session, students can feel free to pick and choose programming throughout the year. The instructor will adjust all content to fit each student’s needs, abilities, and experience.

*If you attend Central Middle School, you will attend programming at North High School in Room 108 on Mondays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and your instructor will be Emily Meranda

*If you attend Sunrise Park Middle School, you will attend programming at the South High School cafeteria on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. with instructor Aaron Radatz.

What is a character? What choices can actors make to createtheir characters compelling? This session, take a journey of expression and self-discovery that will give you real tech niques to apply to the stage, and to life!

Take a look at the characters around you... In this session, students will explore the dynamics of building an ensemble and working collaboratively to understand how to support their scene-partners. Students will partner with one another in order to explore conflict and drama. Learn how to “listen,” and not just “hear!”

From page to stage! By exploring small group scenes, students will find out how to pull apart text and find the meaning within. The techniques learned in this class will translate directly into be- ing a better actor, but you may also start to make connections to everyday literacy as well...

In the first of our FREE two hour clinics, you will learn some basic, as well as ad- vanced, makeup principles just in time for Halloween! A great way to learn how to disguise yourself if the situation calls for it!

Successful Auditions!

We will discuss everything you need to know about auditioning for that next big role in the sec- ond or our FREE clinics! Audition- ing can be quite the intimidating process but after you learn a few tricks of the trade, your next one is surely to be a little bit easier.

Stage Combat!
Thursday, November 3
In the third of our FREE clinics you can learn how to swash buckle, wrangle, squabble and toil with your friends and foes! All for one and one for all!

Playwriting!
Thursday, November 17
Topics in this FREE clinic include story structure, development, dialogue, transitions and manuscript formats. You will also learn what to do with your finished script once it is complete! The help- ful tips touched upon in this clinic are crucial to know when and can be incorporated into your writing immediately!

Stage Design!
Thursday, December 1
In this simple FREE clinic you will touch upon basic topics such as backdrops, props and the theory that less is more. Unlike television and film, the set doesn’t have to be too realistic and detailed. It just has to be functional and creative. This is a great place to start for beginners as well as advanced students.

Stage Lighting and Sound!
Thursday, December 15
In the final of our FREE clinics, you will touch upon basic lighting and sound theatre techniques. Topics that will be touched upon are the technical aspects of mood, patterns, composition, story telling, revelation of form along with light and sound board basics.

  • Capacity is limited and classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • A class minimum must be met or programming will be canceled.
  • Payment must be received when the registration form is submitted.
  • Assume your registration has been accepted once submitted.
  • If a class is canceled, your registration fee will be returned.

Meet LPT's Outreach and Education Team!

AaronAaron Radatz is a professional teaching artist active in the Twin Cities theatre community. He has taught with numerous organizations, including SteppingStone Theatre, Circus Juventas, and the city of Bloomington, as well as serving as Artist in Residence for numerous schools throughout the metro area. His theatrical career includes puppetry, physical theatre, film, and more--but his greatest joy comes from sharing his craft with young actors.

LauraLaura Lechner is a performer, puppeteer, writer and film student working in Minneapolis. She received her Theatre Arts degree from the University of Minnesota, and is currently pursuing a degree in Cinema Production at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. Laura is passionate about collaboration in both theatre-making and education, and loves working with and learning from people of all ages and experiences.

EmilyEmily Meranda is a graduate of Lawrence University and the London Centre. She has taught with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, US Performing Arts Camps, and Arts Bridge America. She currently teaches with the Minnesota ReadingCorps in Saint Paul Public Schools. As an educator, Emily is excited to use theater to create a community for emerging artists to develop their individual and artistic identities.

MatthewMatthew Hertz is a theatre teacher at the Academy for Sciences and Agriculture (AFSA High School) in Vadnais Heights. He serves as an active member of the Lakeshore Players Theatre Board of Directors on the Outreach Committee. Matthew can currently be seen as Staggio in Lakeshore’s touring production of "Hansel and Gretel" as well as a member the Lakeshore Radio Players, our traveling old-time radio show.
